Wallace State Community College Salon and Spa Management program offer a full-service salon and spa experience.
Successful cosmetologist should have the knowledge, understanding of fashion, art, and technical design. They should be passionate and motivated to working with the public and be able to follow instructions. “People Skills” are an integral part of the job. Business skills are an important area for all stylist to grow your business or to open a salon.
Advancement usually takes the form of higher earnings as a cosmetologist’s higher experience and building a steady clientele. Some cosmetologist’s mange a larger salon, lease booths spaces in a salon or open their own salon after several years of experience. Others teach in cosmetology schools or provide training through vocational school. Others advance to become sales representatives, image or fashion consultants or examiners for state board licensing.
The Wallace State program provides education in emerging technology in the scientific and practical study of beauty culture with instruction in the care and beautification of the hair, skin, nails which designed to prepare students for the Alabama licensing examination.
All students trained by State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering Certified Instructors who prepare all students to take their State Board Licensing exam following the completion of the Salon and Spa Management AAS degree or Certificate.
Career Outlook
Overall employment of barbers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists is projected to grow 8 percent from 2022 to 2032, faster than the average for all occupations. In addition, an increased demand for hair coloring, hair straightening, and other advanced hair treatments is expected to continue over the projection decade.
Employment trends are expected to vary among the different occupational specialties. Employment of hairdressers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists should grow about as fast as average.
Median earnings in May 2022 for hairdressers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists was $33,400 per year or $16.01 per hour.(Source: U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics)
